About DEEVAN*

I am a DEEV*. That realization was the beginning of the entire project.

I have immigrated from Iran to Austria in 2015. Since then, I caught between languages, cultures, unfamiliar eyes, and ceasless questions: Why am I here? Where am I from? Who am I becoming?

Displacement creates a profound anthropological shift. Everyone interprets it slightly differently, but we all share a collective feeling of being suspended in an endless state of liminality—a kind of purgatory. It’s a metamorphosis without a clear destination, with no horizon in sight. We leave one culture behind but never fully arrive in another.

This distortion of identity became, to me, a representation of social otherness. The image of a DEEV emerged—a symbol of immigrants who are no longer their past selves, yet traces of that identity remain visible. DEEVs resemble humans but are distorted, warped versions of themselves.

The DEEVAN* project disrupts systems with sharp sarcasm and radical absurdity. Wherever it goes, it seeks out the hidden loops of formality and dehumanized structures, recreating these systems through incisive and direct performative interactions. At its core is the DEEVAN* Ball, a vibrant and chaotic event by local immigrant artists. This uncurated exhibition provides a space for all DEEVs to occupy and transform the environment to its fullest extent, embodying the project's ethos of boundary-pushing inclusivity and creative anarchy.

Through this project, I aim to connect with other DEEVs. Together, instead of conforming, we create our own space—undefined.

Yours Sinserely,
Ayan Rezaei
